The Swedish Sambo Visa in 2015/2016 Part 12: The Sambo Summary Publications

UPDATE (16 July2016): As I settle into my new life here in Sweden and enter the final months of my pregnancy, my ability to create the Sambo Summary will continue to decrease.  We have so much going on over here, and it's hard to find time to dedicate to producing these pieces.  Also, I have decreased how involved I am in the support groups (also because of time constraints) and, as such, I will eventually get to the point of not being up to date with all the latest news.  The Maintenance Requirements law will soon go into place (latest update on that is that it will take effect on 21 July 2016) and it will be difficult for me to closely monitor how that will affect overall waiting times in the long term.

Nonetheless, I will continue to do my best to produce these reportssporadically.  So far, we don't see much change in the trends other than that interview emails have started to go out at a normalized pace (about every 4-6 months), and average decision waiting times have actually crept down slightly (by about half a month, give or take).  Everything else is seeming to hold steady.

These reports are PDFs uploaded to Google Drive, and can be downloaded and used as necessary. They are based off of the data we collect and track on  the spreadsheet.

Happy Viewing!

  1. Hej! Thank you for publishing all this information, it's very helpful for all of us waiting. Me and by soon to be sambo have been checking in on your blog every now and then since August for updates. We applied the first week of April and today 24 of feb my boyfriend got the interview-email from Migrationsverket. I hope to hear you getting the your decision soon which would mean their administration is actually going forward Haha. It could be any day now from what I've understood from the statistics! Lycka till :)

    1. Oh YAY! Congrats on the interview email Linnéa, that is wonderful! May I ask what day specifically you applied? May I add you to the spreadsheet? If so... what country did your särbo apply from? And have you set a date for the interview yet?

Yesterday we started seeing 31 March 2015 applicants receive their emails, so I knew early April applicants were right around the corner. It is always such a wonderful thing to be able to see some order and predictability with MV these days.

Johan and I found out last week that we have a beslutsfattare! But, unfortunately, he is sick and out of the office this week :/ And since he is new, his decision has to be approved by the team leader, so we may have to wait another week or two. But we are really close, and we feel it. Now, it's just sitting back and waiting for the news :) Can't wait!! And in just a few very short months it will be your guys' turn too! <3

    1. Thank you so much! I will add you right now! :) Please remember to come back and let me know once you received your interview email so we can add that to the list too! MV is just starting to send out emails to May 2015 applications, but they are going really quickly... so, they should be getting around to your application date really soon! <3

  3. Hi:) Our application was registered on 8th of November 2015. I am Russian citizen living and working in Beijing/China. In the application i wrote, that i want to have my interview in Beijing. I have my residence permit here till October 2016, which make me think that MV should send me interview letter before my residence permit will expire. But if it won't happen i have no idea what to do. Ofc i will go back to Russia but does it mean that i should apply from the beginning? Or they will just make changes in my application online ....so I'm confused...and worrieed that this will make process longer that it should be. However, my BF called them several times and asked operator to make a note that i have residence permit in another country, so i can't stay here forever waiting MV go through our case. When we applied we thought that 11 month is quite enough to get my papers done...naive...lol
During that call, operator told him, that someone opened our case but she can't see who opened it and we still don't have a case officer. So we are being patient and keep waiting. I didn't find any similar situations on the internet, so decided to share it with you. You can add our application in your spreadsheet. And thank you for statistic that you keep updating. If MV's sending interview letters to ppl who applied in September, how fast they will rich November applications?

  4. hej hej , Megan
I m Doris from Taiwan. Me and bf we want to apply the sambo visa this ending of the year or the beginning of next year.
Because now my bf he is still in Taiwan , and i ve already bought the flight ticket to Sweden this Christmas. So... just thinking of is that okay to apply sambo visa before i go to visit Sweden, or i need to wait til when i come back? And also my bf he sent the emails to MV, they said it is fine to visit Sweden after I apply the sambo visa. But you need to tell the MV the period you will stay. I m just wondering what the rule it is... confusing, And I have another question , is that okay for my bf coming to visit me during the processing time of visa?

    1. Hi Doris! Ok, I have a couple questions for you so that I understand your situation and can offer some answers and advice :)

      1) Am I correct in understanding that you are Taiwanese and live in Taiwan?
      2) Am I correct in understanding that your partner is a Swedish citizen that is currently living or visiting you in Taiwan? Or is he also Taiwanese (not a Swedish citizen, but he has a permanent residence permit in Sweden) and is currently living or visiting you in Taiwan?

If you could write me back and let me know the details a little more, that will help me offer you the best advice!

  9. Hi,

Great blog. Are these waiting times for those that apply for the first time, or is it the same for extension as well?

    Regards,

    Brisilda

    1. Hi Brisilda! Sorry for the delay... you made your comment 4 days after I gave birth. Suffice it to say life has been a little busy ;D

These are just for first time applications for folks waiting to be reunited with their partners. We don't track extensions, unfortunately :(

    1. Hey there! Unfortunately, I cannot :/ I have not been tracking extension cases - only first time applications. You may be able to find a good deal of information on The Local's forum. Here is the link to a keyword search for "extension" - you may be able to source some recent info there! http://www.thelocal.se/discuss/index.php?act=Search&CODE=show&searchid=2706039276e5196762ab5295c1b201f0&search_in=titles&result_type=topics&highlite=%2Bextension

And here is the link to a good thread designed for first time applications, but recently people have been writing about extensions: http://www.thelocal.se/discuss/index.php?showtopic=77461&st=855&start=855

    3. Thanks, I phoned them today and informed me that I have a team leader but not case officer. I guess that it takes shortly to receive the decision. I will appreciate if you share your idea with me.
      Thanks
